About Vicki Citron

Prior to founding the Vicki Citron Music Studio in 1988, Ms. Citron taught for fifteen years in community music schools and public school systems in the Boston area.

Performing credits include chamber music as a member of the University of Massachusetts, Lowell graduate string quartet, & opera in Lucca, Torre del Lago, and Spoleto, Italy. Ms. Citron has given solo recitals in the Boston area and at the Smithsonian Institution.

Ms. Citron believes that teaching benefits from the thoughtful questioning and analysis of research, and has presented papers on computer assisted composition by young music students at professional conferences. She is a contributor to journals and magazines for string players and music teachers.

Ms. Citron is a regular clinician at Boston area music schools and colleges, including Longy School of Music and Berklee

College of Music, where she presents classes on violin pedagogy and how to run a successful music studio.

She believes strongly that one must teach the whole person, not just the violin.  Her background with the Feldenkrais method, Alexander method, and Brain Gym help her give students the tools they need to develop physical comfort and mental focus.

Committed to Suzuki education, Ms. Citron is past president of Suzuki MA, the Massachusetts Association of Suzuki Teachers and Families, and past director of Massachusetts Suzuki Festival.

Ms. Citron received her BA in music from Brandeis University and her MM in music performance from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. She studied violin with George Neikrug, a student of D. C. Dounis. She has taught Suzuki violin since 1982.
